Korea University (KU) held a completion ceremony for the Main Building of College of Medicine on July 10 at Yookwangsa Hall on the second floor of the new building. The 10 story building, including three basement floors together, comprised 21,561m2 of total ground area.

The building is an intelligent building, equipped with a total computing environment. The intelligent management system controls the building’s climate, reacting to the outside temperature, as well as providing high-tech wireless communication and the Internet. It also has environment-friendly features such as natural lighting and an automatic ventilation system.

The new building contains various research spaces and laboratories such as a medicine and science research assistance center and administrative rooms like those for the Academic Affairs Department. Thanks to effective spatial arrangement, designed with the natural flow of users in mind, doctors, researchers and other staff can move quickly and easily between laboratories and administrative offices.

“The development of the College of Medicine and Anam Hospital is an indispensable factor and one of the top priority projects for KU’s master plan of Anam Hospital development for breakthroughs through innovation,” said Byoung–Chul Kim, President of KU. “I hope the Main Building of the College of Medicine will result in a new educational infrastructure, and improvement in the capability of students, KU hospital doctors, and other medical research, leading to it becoming a cradle for fostering the medically talented,” Kim said.

The KU College of Medicine will begin construction of an unyet-named second Medicine Building, which will stand next to the Main Building, this October, and expects the building to be completed by the end of next year. It will be a seven-story building with 7569.56m2 of total ground area. These new buildings and included facilities will help make KU’s Anam Hospital one of the best medical complex in Korea.
