On February 8, Faculty Senate of Korea University (FSKU) issued a newsletter about research misconduct by President-elect Chung Jin Taek. FSKU announced that it had received an anonymous report revealing President Chung’s academic dishonesty on January 2. According to the newsletter, KU Student Union (KUSU) and KU Graduate School Student Union (KUGSSU) also received the information and entrusted the judgement to FSKU after the meeting. However, both student unions asserted that this is not true.

On February 20, KUSU expressed its opposition through a campus wall poster. KUSU writes that it has never talked over this matter with FSKU stating that the anonymous report was delivered to KUSU on January 3 whereas the last meeting with the president of FSKU was held on January 2. Furthermore, the meeting was about the election process of the 20th president of KU. KUSU expressed regret over the circumstance where KU students are being used for political means of FSKU.

KUSU requested FSKU for a correction and a statement of apology on the misinformed report. It further required FSKU to share any content related with KUSU and KUGSSU with concerned parties before publicizing information. KUSU strongly showed its belief that every student of KU should be respected and valued as an equal member of the university.
