On November 9, the professors of Korea University (KU) made the Declaration of State of Affairs. By 3:00 P.M., more than 500 professors have signed their names on the declaration to criticize President Park Geun-hye, and the number is continuously increasing as time goes by.

The title of the declaration is “Punish the Humiliation of Affairs and March toward a True Democratic Republic.” The professors claimed that President Park have destroyed the value and the system of democratic republic and put the Republic of Korea in danger by privatizing the power granted by the people. Park’s complacent attitude of shifting the blame on a specific person and trying to avoid crisis of the administration made the professors outraged.

They said that the responsibility of the current situation lies on many bodies of Korea, including the police, the prosecution, the congress, some of the press, and monopolistic chaebols. “We do realize that there are reasons for universities and professors, becoming subordinate to power and capital, to be blamed,” they revealed.

They argued for three main points to bring fundamental reforms and reestablish the base of Korea.

One. Those who humiliated the state of affairs, President Park and all concerned, must leave the office.
One. Inquire the actual state of humiliation of affairs and punish people in charge.
One. Politicians must abandon political motivations and perform the affairs of the state that gives hope to the people.

The movement against the Park administration is spreading across the campus and the country, including the Declaration of State of Affairs by KU students on November 3, the declaration by more than 500 scientists, led by a KU Professor Yoon Tae-Woong (School of Electrical Engineering) on November 4, and the declaration by the KU Professors on November 9.
