The Korea University Student Association (KUSA) announced the postponement of the press interview of Korea University Declaration of State of Affairs, which was scheduled to be held at 12:00 P.M., October 27. As the KUSA announced the delay of the press interview on their Facebook page an hour before the event, it apologized for its immature planning of the event. This aroused much criticism from the KU students.

 

Criticisms on the operation of KU declaration of state of affairs, mainly expressed through Facebook and KU student’s community website Koreapas, lie on mainly three issues. First of all, the main phrase of the declaration, “They killed Baek Nam-Ki and saved Choi Soon-Sil,” has been condemned for linking two unrelated issues and clouding Choi Soon-Sil Gate.

 

In addition, KUSA received joint signatures from various school organizations and included them as the participants. Students claimed that not only are these organizations unrepresentative of the KU students, but also that the political tendency of these organizations politicize the declaration as a whole. Finally and most importantly, the KUSA failed to communicate with the students while preparing for the declaration. Many students said that while the student association of Yonsei University (YU) openly collected opinions of students through google docs, there was no method for the KU students to openly speak up.

 

In one of the Daejabos (campus wall posters) posted on the West Gate, anonymous students argued, “the KUSA needs to represent the students of KU. Please listen carefully to us fellow students, and take actions that can represent them.” The matters on follow-up actions will be discussed at the provisional central board of governors on the same day at 8:00 P.M.
