Korea University (KU) beat Yonsei University (YU) in its first game of the Ko-Yon Games with the final score-line 4-3. This win was special since the KU baseball team continued its win streak against YU and KU was able to make a comeback after conceding first.

The deadlock between the two sides was broken in the third inning, when YU batted three runs in. With only the second base loaded, KU made an excruciating error and allowed Kim Byung Jae (’13, Yonsei, Outfielder) to reach second base and Kim Chang Yong to reach home, making it 1-0. YU’s attack did not end here. The next batter, Jeong Jin Su (’16, Yonsei, First Baseman), batted Kim Byung Jae in to make it 2-0 while he made it to the second base with his hit. The trouble seemed to fade as Lim Yang Seop (’14, Physical Education, Pitcher) struck the next batter out, but the problem worsened when YU’s designated hitter’s, Kim Chan Hee (’13, Yonsei, Designated Hitter), controversial hit, which KU players argued as a foul, brought in Jeong home, making it 3-0.

KU seemed to make a comeback straight away when, at the bottom of the third inning, Kim Hamin (’14, Physical Education, Infielder) laced the ball towards the left field, creating a vital chance for KU to earn a point. However, the inning came to an end pointless for KU when Cho Yoo Seong’s (’13, Physical Education, Outfielder) batted ball was miraculously caught by YU’s outfield player mid-air.

KU, however, did not give up. After successfully defending the top of the fourth inning, KU’s ace hitter, Son Sang Min (’13, Physical Education, First Baseman), created a vital chance for KU to come back into as he produced a hit which loaded both the first and second base. Kim Ki Dam (’14, Physical Education, Catcher) then took this chance by hitting a double and bringing two KU batters home, making it 3-2.

It was too early for KU to sit back, though, when YU fought back right away by loading the entire bases with only one batter out at the top of the fifth inning. KU decided it was time to bring down the starter pitcher, Lim, and bring on Lee Jiwon (’13, Physical Education, Pitcher). Despite given an immense burden on his back, he brilliantly defended the inning when his pitch led to a double play, ending the inning scoreless for YU.
