On September 22, the orientation for Open Lab program in College of Life Sciences was held in Life Sciences & Biotechnology East Building of Korea University (KU). The orientation, hosted by the student council of Life Sciences, was participated by more than 80 KU students, who registered in advance. In the orientation, the students listened to the general introduction of the program, met their lab partners, and were informed of their missions to understand the researches of their academic advisors or learn major experimental methods.

Open Lab is a program designed to give students of Life Sciences more chances to experience basic research and experiments. The program was planned to overcome the drawbacks of the existing summer/winter program by Academic Affairs Department of the college. The original program was implemented mainly for seniors and juniors only, and was too lengthy for most students to participate in. The students will learn and work in their assigned labs from September 26 to September 28, and will make presentations on their missions on October 4.

Choi Dongcheon (’13, Life Sciences), the president of the student council in the College of Life Sciences, mentioned on his expectation towards the program. “Throughout the program, we expect students to experience the atmosphere of laboratories, acquire elementary skills on experiments, and bolter relationships with professors,” he said.
