On September 2, the orientation for the first Humanities Research Gatherings was held in the Central Plaza. The orientation, hosted by Korea University Center of Teaching and Learning (KUCTL), was participated by 16 groups of KU students and the academic advisors of these teams whose proposals were chosen in advance. In the orientation, the students were taught the processes and precautions of the program, and in the remaining time introduced their subject of researches in front of other participants.

The Humanities Research Gatherings is a program that aims to raise KU students’ competence in humanities by incorporating studies and participatory tasks with humanities related topics. The program is a part of “initiative for COllege of humanities' Research and Education (CORE),” a governmental policy which aims to revive humanities in universities. The participating groups that consist of three to five students will receive three million won of grant from the school, conduct their planned researches for the next six months, and present their research results on May 3, 2017.

Jaeho Jung, the director of Center for Teaching and Learning, remarked on the significance of this program. “Though the importance of humanities is often neglected, humanities is the core of all studies as all intellectual studies, even the natural science, aim to understand and help humans. We hope that the students can enhance their calibre on humanities through this program,” he said.
