Korea University will acquire yet another new feature come this September. On June 2, the university announced plans to set up KUBS Startup Station (name subject to change) in KUBS Main Hall. The station is to offer a chance for university students, those from Korea University or otherwise, to partake in an entrepreneurship curriculum.
The station is to house a couple of facilities that will provide support to aspiring young entrepreneurs: The Sung Myung-ho Entrepreneurship Education Center (Education Center) and Il-jin Entrepreneurship Support Center (Support Center). The Education Center seeks to nurture entrepreneurs well versed in a variety of subjects and is to offer enterpreneurial courses joined with fields such as humanities, engineering, and biotechnology. The Support Center will organize a group of mentors to help students along, and will also hold entrepreneurial contests that students may enter in teams of 4. Winners will claim a space in the Support Center, and promising residents of the center may participate in an advanced incubation program.
Aykerim Dussikenova (‘15, Department of Business Administration) stated, “I think the center will be very useful because students will have a chance to learn about various fields. Taking classes with students of different majors will also expose us to fresh ideas and perspectives.” An international student, she ended the interview expressing hopes that the school would encourage students from foreign countries to participate. “Classes with international students will help participants open their minds and think on a global scale. We’re in an era of globalization, and I think it’s very important for entrepreneurs to have a wide worldview and fit in well in a global market.”
