Korea University (KU) held the opening ceremony of the Woodang Park Jong Gu Lounge in the first floor of Woo Dang Hall on May 26. The lounge was constructed to honor Park Jong Gu (’51, Politics), a great contributor who donated 12 billion won to reconstruct the Woo Dang Hall in 2000. Park expressed that he wished that the lounge could be a space that is useful to KU students; thus it has been designed as a place where students can freely self-study or engage in team projects.

Park is a successful businessman who was the first in the country to develop silk that can be ironed. He also founded Samku, the first television home shopping program ever to appear in Korea, and made a breakthrough in the distribution of the market. Woo Dang Hall, which was fully renewed in 2003, was named after Park’s pseudonym.

At the opening ceremony of the Woodang Park Jong Gu Lounge, Yeom Jae Ho, President of KU, and many other personnel of the academic board expressed gratification for Park’s contribution. “The lounge can be a place where students can not only rest but also use the computer and utilize freely,” said Yeom. “KU will also be concerned in preserving the lounge as a place that students can always love,” he added.
