Korea University (KU) personnel has recently announced, “Having gone through a one-year period of preparation beginning March of last year, we are to create a ‘π-Ville,’ a space where students can plan and realize business ideas, behind the College of Political Science & Economics in the Anam campus of KU.”

Named after the first two letters of the word Pioneer and the Greek alphabet π, KU will invest 300 million won into the creation of π-Ville. In a refreshing twist, it will be constructed by stacking 30 to 40 container boxes and the construction will near its completion around this July.

The inspiration behind this fresh building concept has been pointed to garages—the Silicon Valley’s symbol of its creative spirit. For Korea, this is the first attempt of a university leading the construction of a space for “startups” on its campus. When finished, π-Ville will be a four story building with a basement. After the first π-Ville, which will be finished this July, KU plans to build two more π-Villes each in front of the Main Gate and the Science and Engineering Campus by next May.
