"My brother has suffered from cerebral palsy since when I was young," said Han as he started talking about his family story about how he came to study about and make robots. Since Han's childhood, it has been hard for Han's family to take care of his brother every singlle day and a family trip was something that Han could never imagine. Han continued, "At then, I saw a cartoon called "Atom." These robots could save people's lives and I realized, ' yes. this is it!'." Upon such a children's fantasies, Han had simply had a dream to invent a robot that could assist people's lives. Later on, Han started studying the mechanical engineering, eventually completing his doctorate in Robotics.

Of course, the reality was not easy for Han to deal with. The research in the field of robotics was only in its infancy with robots, and barely able to be controlled by remote. The obstacles that Han faced as he first studied robots were more severe than what he imagined. "The study of robotics was literally at a starting stage. And there is still a long way to go in inventing new technologies, and lots of things to overcome. At the current stage, robots cannot mimic the capacity of the human brain's algorithmn. The motors also have to improve a lot."said Han. Having high expectations for those involved in the field of robotics, he is dedicating his time and endeavors to improving robot research.

“I was a quiet student while in college. It leaves me a little regret,” said Han, reflects upon his college life when asked what kind of student he was while in college. “I always wanted to get involved in various club activities, but I just had no opportunities,” Han added. But now, Han is an active leader in his company. As a chief reasercher, Han is now planning a big competition match that is coming up at the end of this year with a number of teammates. Also, he leads the team with his strong philosophy in making robots and is determined to help create a world with intelligent robots that can actually help human's lives in the near future.

One of Han's thoughts about the character of a robot researcher is that they have to keep in mind that robots are made for humans. "Sometimes, I see researchers who are obsessed with money and honor; however, robots are made to coexist with humans. So there is a basic principle that robots are made for humans." Han is focusing his work on developing a robot that assists people, so called "intelligent robots". With so many of catastrophes worldwide, such an invention is needed more than ever before. At this point, Han feels sorry that sufficient advancements have not been made in robotics. However, Han says that by the end of this competition, a lot of advancements will be made.

With the recent Sewol ferry tragedy in Korea and the Fukushima Nuclear Plant accident in Japan, Robotics researchers are trying their best to create a society in which one day robots could actually save the lives of people in danger, as well as help rescue them without risking any more casualties. "I am just sorry that robots are now just in their early phase, comparable to a toddler. But we are trying our best to make the best robots out of technologies that we have through such competitions." Han added. " I think I am heading toward the dream that I had when I was a child. Now I think maybe someday in the future my dreams will be fulfilled,"said Han.

But Han was not always a dreamer -"there were times in my life when I had to put my ambitions aside and follow the set routine of getting a job." Han spent the last year of his college life studying for language tests, obtaining licenses, and worrying about his GPA. He then got into a large enterprise research team. It was not something that Han wanted to do. Due to the gap between his dream and reality, Han had to quit the job and start following his dream, going to Virgina, U.S. Thinking of bygone days, Han says he still regrets the time that he had missed and wasted fitting into a society's needs. “I think I could have done more if I had listened to what others said; I just regret it,” he laughs.

Han says he suggests that college students have dreams. "Thesedays, I get to meet a lot of college students and young people. Their common ground is that they don't know what they want to do. and this is a problem. Maybe its a society problem," says Han. As a life senior, Han suggested youths to go through as many experiences as possible and find their own dreams and interests. Though it is true that society today is forcing students to follow what society suggests they do, Han says it is more than obvious that they will one day regret not realizing what their true hopes and aspirations really are. So in the words of Han, "Dream, and try hard to achieve it. This will one day lead them to satisfaction and the life that they wish to pursue."
